Shabrae Jackson
PhD Candidate

Shabrae is a PhD candidate where she is exploring ritual and restoration in groups and communities through cultural & contextualized resources and pedagogies for healing and peace. She holds a BA in Social Work, a postgraduate degree in Sport
for Conflict Transformation and Social Coexistence from the University of Catalunya, and a MA in Expressive Arts for Conflict-transformation and Peace. Shabrae is a supervisor and adviser for Master students, as well as an Expressive Arts in Transition trainer and supervisor helping to create new training groups in Latin America.
Shabrae lived in Mexico for over 15 years and has worked globally with numerous grass-roots leaders and organizations to create community-based projects for youth leadership, public health, and crisis response. She has implemented and provided oversight for long term projects within diverse settings and is founder of Collective Tapestry, a small NGO that creates community co-labs for collective exploration and inquiry. Current projects are being supported to train leaders in using the arts for community support, substance misuse prevention and resilience. In addition, Shabrae is co-founder of UMBRAL, a collaborative effort to provide arts-based psychosocial trauma training for leaders and humanitarians working with migrants & refugees. Shabrae regularly offers training to groups and organizations internationally and teaches in expressive arts based spaces.
Shabrae’s research interests include the exploration of ritual and the arts as a container for change; a resource to help build the social body. Further explorations intertwine with how the arts and ritual synthesize to build connections that can lead towards a sense of belonging and social cohesion: essentially how the social/ communal body comes to be.
