  2. Diverse Modalities: Participants will explore and integrate multiple art forms, enhancing creativity and improving their capacity to facilitate dynamic, transformative processes.
  3. Evidence-Based Approaches: The program is rooted in both academic research and experiential learning, ensuring that participants gain solid, research-backed knowledge while engaging in creative practices.
  4. Personal and Professional Growth: Whether you are an educator, therapist, artist, or simply an individual seeking to deepen your understanding of the arts, these modules will empower you to approach your work with renewed creativity, insight, and skill.
  5. Expert Guidance: Learn from experienced professionals in the field of Expressive Arts, each with a rich background in both practice and theory.
Expressive Arts for Personal and Professional Growth
The Expressive Arts approach bridges art making, self-exploration, and transformation in a holistic manner.        We are excited to present professional development offerings designed for those seeking to deepen their understanding and practice in the dynamic field of Expressive Arts. This program is composed of three modules: Intermodal Expressive Art Exploration Module K, Resource-Oriented Praxis Module A-P and Phenomenological Theoretical Foundation Module F online.
These modules are carefully crafted to provide participants with comprehensive toolkits that blend experiential learning, theoretical understanding, and practical techniques for integration into personal, therapeutic, and professional settings.

Below are some upcoming Professional Development programs offered by the AHS Division:

Module K: Intermodal Expressive Arts Exploration
Course Duration: 3 weeks
Format: In-Person and Online blended Learning
Target Audience: Artists, therapists, educators, and individuals interested in integrating multiple art modalities for creative expression and healing.
Module Overview:
This module invites participants to explore the expressive potential of various art forms, including visual art, movement, music, poetry, and drama, all while engaging in intermodal practice. Participants will learn how to integrate and transition between different artistic media in order to enhance emotional expression and discover new pathways for personal and professional growth.

Module A-P: Resource-Oriented Praxis
Course Duration: 2 weeks
Format: In-Person
Target Audience: Therapists, educators, and helping professionals who wish to adopt resource-oriented approaches in their work.
Module Overview:
This module introduces participants to resource-oriented praxis, an approach that focuses on identifying and cultivating personal and collective resources through art-based practices. Resource orientation encourages individuals to harness strengths, capacities, and creative potentials, even in the face of adversity or trauma. This module will teach participants how to guide clients, students, or groups in identifying, enhancing, and utilizing their intrinsic creative resources for resilience and growth.

Module 3: Phenomenological Theoretical Foundation
Course Duration: 9 monthly seminars
Format: Online Seminars / Independent Study
Target Audience: Researchers, academics, therapists, and artists who wish to deepen their theoretical understanding of the Expressive Arts.
Module Overview:
In this module, participants will explore phenomenological theory and its application to the field of Expressive Arts. Phenomenology offers insights into the lived experiences of individuals and emphasizes the importance of subjective perception and meaning making in the arts. By examining key phenomenological concepts such as embodiment, intentionality, and perception, participants will gain a richer understanding of the underlying processes that inform art-making as a transformative tool for personal and collective healing.

Save the Date! Malta Spring Course
Phenomenological Orientation as a Philosophical Entrance in Education, Research, and Social Change: An Elaboration Using the Concept of Embodiment

Hybrid from 23 – 27 April 2026, Valletta, University of Malta.

Phenomenology, as a philosophical approach, has increasingly been recognized for its potential to reshape how we understand and engage with education, research, and social change. Rooted in the works of thinkers like Edmund Husserl, Martin Heidegger, Maurice Merleau-Ponty, and others, phenomenology emphasizes direct experience and subjective meaning nmaking as essential aspects of human life. By focusing on lived experience, phenomenology calls attention to the ways in which individuals engage with the world around them, transcending purely intellectual or abstract forms of knowledge. In this offering, we explore phenomenological orientation as a key philosophical entrance into educational theory, research methodology, and social transformation, with a particular focus on the concept of embodiment.
